Take Skin Care Seriously
May 8, 2017
For many years, I joined my friends each summer to enjoy days on the lake and time at the beach. I’m a fair-skinned redhead and had a hard time (okay, impossible) time tanning. As my thirties loomed, I started taking skin care more seriously; however, the damage had already been done.
At an annual visit with my physician, he checked my skin to look for anything that might look abnormal. He found a small spot on my arm that had him worried. He referred me to the Plastic Surgery Group. This was my introduction to the Group and I was concerned about the size of scar I’d have after the procedure was done. I wasn’t even thinking that there was a reason to be concerned for my health.
The abnormal “freckle” turned out to be a melanoma and I was quickly scheduled to have it removed. What I remember from that visit resonates with me today: if you are going to receive news about your health, you want it to come from someone who explains everything to you and answers questions even after the procedure is done; and, you want the best surgeon you can find to provide your care.
Today, you would never notice the tiny scar on my arm. I am grateful for the care I received from a place that is known not only for their expertise but also for the team that makes each patient a priority.
