Below are frequently asked questions answered by Aesthetic Nurse Allie, about skin care, injectables and other non-surgical services.
What is Allie's skin care routine?
"In the evenings, I use my Clarisonic with the SkinCeuticals LHA Cleanser to make sure I get all of my makeup off. I follow that with the SkinCeuticals Equalizing Toner to help balance and restore my skin's protective pH mantle while also removing any excess makeup or residue. Next I use the SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier which is a mult-functional corrective serum that contains a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, proxylane™, and botanical extracts of licorice root and purple rice to support skin’s hyaluronic acid levels and deliver surface hydration. Last, I apply the SkinCeuticals Phloretin C.F. serum which diminishes the appearance of hyperpigmentation and accelerates cellular turnover to retexture skin. I do the same thing in the mornings, but with the added step of applying Elta MD Skin Care Daily Tinted moisturizing sunscreen."
What is Sculptra? How long can it last?
"Sculptra is an injectable collagen stimulant. This means that it stimulates the collagen in your skin to produce even more which helps restore structure and volume. Sculptra is typically a series of injections. While every patient is different, most typically get 2 vials initially. After 4 weeks the patient will come back for 1 vial. And repeat 1 vial after another 4 weeks. Once the series is complete, the results usually last 24-36 months."
It is my first time getting Botox®, what should I expect?
"Botox is a neurotoxin injection that helps with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I believe it's important for patients to look natural after receiving Botox. With this in mind, I apply Botox very carefully to make sure the result is a relaxed, natural look for my patients. Once applied, it will take several days for the Botox to begin to work and should last approximately 3-4 months."
What are the results you have seen on patients who have used Latisse?
"Latisse is a great product for people who have short or few eyelashes. It's an easy application and really does make the lashes grow fuller, longer and darker. After using it, some ladies won't even use mascara anymore. I love that Latisse is an FDA approved product, so my patients know its safe to use!"
Is Dermaplaning a hair removal serivce? What does it really do for my skin?
"Dermaplaning is truly an exfoliation service. There is the added benefit of some hair removal, but that is not the sole purpose. The myth that the hair comes back thicker and darker is false. With dermaplaning, the hair that is removed along with dead skin cells is not taken from the root. Therefore it will not root differently, it will merely continue to grow as it was. I had this done recently and after a few days the hair stopped feeling prickly. I couldn't believe all the dead skin cells that came off of my face. The difference it made in my appearance was amazing! I highly recommend this service, and I enjoy doing it!"
What is a non-surgical option I have to treat my "double chin"?
“The answer is simple: Kybella. Kybella is the first and only FDA approved nonsurgical treatment designed to contour and define the area under your chin. Your Kybella visit takes thirty minutes to an hour. The number of treatments varies depending on each individual patient. Patients have said that there is a little discomfort during the treatment, and experienced mild swelling for a few days. I really enjoy Kybella and the results I have seen for patients are impressive.
I'm interested in lip injections to restore lost shape and volume, but I want to maintain a natural look. How do I proceed?
"It's all about the technique and product that is used. In a consultation, we will discuss desired results, current shape and volume, and then we will go over the options best suited for each individual patient. With many patients, I find that correcting the border of the lips is going to give them the natural look they desire. Other times a little more volume is needed. The results of these treatments can last up to a year."
What kind of non-surgical options might I have to improve lost facial volume and address fine lines and wrinkeles in the mid-face area?
"There are a variety of different non-surgical treatment options to address these issues, and it really depends on each individual patient as to which will offer the desired results. One of the options is Sculptra. This injectable encourages natural collagen production that will subtly increase volume. Most patients require a series of treatments spread out over several months. Sculptra is different than an injectable like Restalyne in the sense that it takes effect over time instead of immediately. The results with Sculptra are long-lasting usually only requiring re-injection after about two years following the initial series."
