Below are frequently asked questions answered by Aesthetic Nurse Allie, about skin care and injectables.
What is Allie's night time skin care routine?
"Before I get into the shower I use my Elemis Cleansing Balm by slathering it all over my full face of makeup! Once I get into the shower, I rinse it off and then apply my SkinCeuticals Purifying Cleanser to my Clarisonic and use it on my face, neck, and chest. Once out of the shower, I use my Elemis Eye Makeup Remover to remove any remaining eye makeup, and follow that with the Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Pad on my face, neck, and chest. Next, I apply SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Eye Cream from the brow down and around to the whole side and under eye area (don't forget those crows feet!) I then apply my SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense to my face and neck, allowing this to soak in and dry before my next product, which is the SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator which I apply the same exact way! I then use Differin Gel to help control my acne breakouts, and give this a minute or two before applying my SkinCeuticals Renew Overnight Oily Moisturizer to my face, neck, and chest."
What is Sculptra? How long can it last?
"Sculptra is an injectable collagen stimulant. This means that it stimulates the collagen in your skin to produce even more which helps restore structure and volume. Sculptra is typically a series of injections. While every patient is different, most typically get 2 vials initially. After 4 weeks the patient will come back for 1 vial. And repeat 1 vial after another 4 weeks. Once the series is complete, the results usually last 24-36 months."
It is my first time getting Botox®, what should I expect?
"Botox is a neurotoxin injection that helps with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I believe it's important for patients to look natural after receiving Botox. With this in mind, I apply Botox very carefully to make sure the result is a relaxed, natural look for my patients. Once applied, it will take several days for the Botox to begin to work and should last approximately 3-4 months."
What are the results you have seen on patients who have used Latisse?
"Latisse is a great product for people who have short or few eyelashes. It's an easy application and really does make the lashes grow fuller, longer and darker. After using it, some ladies won't even use mascara anymore. I love that Latisse is an FDA approved product, so my patients know its safe to use!"
What is a non-surgical option I have to treat my "double chin"?
“The answer is simple: Kybella. Kybella is the first and only FDA approved nonsurgical treatment designed to contour and define the area under your chin. Your Kybella visit takes thirty minutes to an hour. The number of treatments varies depending on each individual patient. Patients have said that there is a little discomfort during the treatment, and experienced mild swelling for a few days. I really enjoy Kybella and the results I have seen for patients are impressive.
I'm interested in lip injections to restore lost shape and volume, but I want to maintain a natural look. How do I proceed?
"It's all about the technique and product that is used. In a consultation, we will discuss desired results, current shape and volume, and then we will go over the options best suited for each individual patient. With many patients, I find that correcting the border of the lips is going to give them the natural look they desire. Other times a little more volume is needed. The results of these treatments can last up to a year."
What kind of non-surgical options might I have to improve lost facial volume and address fine lines and wrinkles in the mid-face area?
"There are a variety of different non-surgical treatment options to address these issues, and it really depends on each individual patient as to which will offer the desired results. One of the options is Sculptra. This injectable encourages natural collagen production that will subtly increase volume. Most patients require a series of treatments spread out over several months. Sculptra is different than an injectable like Restalyne in the sense that it takes effect over time instead of immediately. The results with Sculptra are long-lasting usually only requiring re-injection after about two years following the initial series."
