Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, is performed to correct ear abnormalities including overly large and misshapen ears or earlobes that have been deformed because of earring use and piercings.
Is Ear Surgery Right For Me?
Ear surgery is commonly performed on children ages 4 to 14. Most ear surgeries are performed on children because their cartilage is more pliable, but adults can also have the procedure done with similar success. While ear surgery corrects ear shape and projection, it will not affect ear function. It is recommended that even if only one ear needs to be corrected that you have surgery on both ears to ensure symmetry and the best aesthetic outcome from your ear surgery.
Your Ear Surgery
Before Surgery: Our plastic surgeons will see you in an initial consultation. The consultation offers you an opportunity to meet with the surgeon of your choice to ask questions. Your surgeon will also review your health history and aesthetic concerns to determine if ear surgery is right for you. Computerized imaging is available for all of our facial cosmetic procedures.
Day of Surgery: Your ear surgery will be performed in our fully accredited in-office surgical suite or in a same day surgical facility as an outpatient procedure. Normally, IV sedation with local anesthesia will be used for your procedure. Ear surgery typically takes approximately 1 hour.
Recovery: You can expect to be in recovery for 45 minutes to 1 hour before being discharged
