New Year. Improved You.
December 15, 2017
Christmas is just around the corner, and I can’t wait to put that pesky Elf on a Shelf back in his box, so he will stop terrorizing my house! But right after Christmas will be the New Year… is time in fast forward?
With a New Year comes the almost dreaded obligation for a New Year’s resolution or the annoying “New Year, New You” campaigns. Of course I think we should all focus on being the best version of ourselves, but there’s no reason to change who you are completely or give yourself obscene goals just out of obligation and because everyone else is doing it. Do something for yourself and stick to it because you want to! You have probably been thinking about it for far too long. Take that next step and do what you’ve only been talking about. And you don’t even have to wait until after the New Year to start, if you ask me! No time like the present!
One thing I hear so often from patients, or just people that I may be talking to about skin care, is that they “should’ve came in sooner” or that “I really want to focus on signs of aging” or that they are “nervous to step outside their comfort zone.”
Injectable fillers are a fantastic way to improve many areas of the face that tend to be a bother to us when we look in the mirror. There is so much information on the web about all the injectable options, but sometimes it scares people away. Maybe you had a bad experience with them years ago or had a friend that did and told you horror stories, but now is the time to take a deep breath and open your mind to all the new options and products we have now.
One of the most common things I hear from my patients is they wish that they had more volume in their lips. Sometimes they have tried lip injections in previous years that they said looked horrible or unnatural for their appearance, were too painful or they are just scared of what they will look like. In the past, the topical numbing agent that was available did not seem to help much with the discomfort during the injections, but now we have something much better that we apply topically 10-20 minutes before starting the injections. We also have different options for injectable products than what was available several years ago. These fillers are designed to look natural and soft and to last for a year or more.
Other popular areas of concern are the lines around the mouth, the lines that extend from sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth, and the area under the chin. The various lines and wrinkles on the face can be easily improved with the new Restylane Refyne or Defyne. The results I have had with those 2 products have been phenomenal! They are both hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers that are designed to last 12-18 months.
The “double chin” is a thing of the past with Kybella. Kybella works by attacking the outside of the fat cells and causing them to be destroyed. This is a permanent result! As with anything that is injected there is a potential for bruising or swelling, but they are well worth the temporary side effects!
Whether you just want to touch your looks up for the holidays or you want to start the year off with a new and improved you, now is the time! I wish you all a wonderful Christmas, a Happy New Year, and may you eat lots of yummy food (my favorite part)!
