Which injectable filler is right for me?

Injectable fillers can be used to treat a wide variety of aesthetic concerns. Different injectables are used to treat different problems on different areas of the face. If you are interested in learning more about injectable fillers available at the Plastic Surgery Group, please contact our office to schedule a complimentary cosmetic consultation with one of our board certified plastic surgeons or our Aesthetic Nurse.

Restylane® is primarily used as a filler to add fullness to the face and to minimize the appearance of wrinkles. This gel can be injected into a wide variety of areas to improve facial contours and smooth wrinkles. It produces natural, gentle, safe and long lasting results. Restylane® is primarily used to treat naso-labial folds (nose to corner of your mouth) and to enhance the lips.

After treatment slight swelling and tenderness may occur. This discomfort is temporary and generally is gone within a few days. With lip treatment, the lips may become swollen and look a bit uneven, but this too typically persists for only a few days.

You will see the full results of your procedure after about one week. The effects of Restylane® can last for six months or more before being naturally absorbed into the body. Repeat treatments of Restylane® are recommended to maintain maximum results.

From the creators of BOTOX® cosmetic, Juvederm® is a dermal filler FDA approved to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles.

Juvederm® is generally used on the nasolabial folds to create a natural-looking result that can last anywhere from six months to a year. Juvederm, like Restylane®, is a hyaluronic acid gel filler used to supplement the natural hyaluronic   acid that aids with skin elasticity and is naturally absorbed into the body.

Juvederm Voluma®

Juvederm Voluma™ is the first and only filler on the market that is FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek. Juvederm Voluma™ is primarily used to correct age related volume loss in the midface. This loss of volume can age the  face and cause someone to look tired. The results of Juvederm Voluma™  are instantaneous and can last up to two years.

Sculptra™ is injected into the skin for restoration of the signs of fat loss. It is effective, well tolerated and long-lasting. It is synthetic, compatible with the skin and biodegradable. It is made from a material which has been used in dissolvable suture material and soft tissue implants for years.

Sculptra is injected with local anesthesia below the skin surface in areas which have suffered volume loss. It provides a gradual increase in the thickness of the skin. It will not correct the cause of fat loss but will substitute for it with increasing skin thickness.

Sculptra works differently than injectables such as Restylane in that its result is accomplished over time rather than immediately. For optimum improvement, most patients require a series of two to three sessions spread out over several months. Sculptra requires re-injection only about every two years to maintain the correction once maximum improvement has been obtained.

Sculptra is injected using a skin ointment anesthesia. As with any injections there may be minor discomfort. After, some bruising may be anticipated which is self-limited and quickly absorbed with massage and ice pack application.

Additional Procedures

Any of these injectables might be combined with other surgical procedures such as a facelift. Facelifts lift and reposition the skin and underlying tissues while injectables plump the skin and restore volume. In addition, the injectable procedures might be combined with each other for more dramatic results.
